Consultation has concluded
The Minnetonka City Council adopted the Purgatory Park Master Plan at its June 24, 2024 meeting.
The plan identifies short-term and long-term recommendations for future potential park improvements.

It does not make sense to have a dog park in the restored prairie, the center of the park, because it is too close to the main trail, a mixed use trail. In addition, fencing that area would be awkward and unsightly and limit other user groups from the restored prairie. Having a new dog park in the NW corner of the park would be a great solution and keep the park community friendly. Many people use the park differently and all user groups make friends and enjoy the community spirit of the park.
Purgatory Park is not an off-leash dog park. It is a community preserve that residents and non-residents (and their dogs) can visit and enjoy. The "fields" are actually restored prairies that the city has invested a lot of time and resources restoring.
I use the off-leash dog park 5 times a week, all year round. Even in winter as long as it’s above negative 10. I have been doing this for three years and have never experienced a problem with off-leash. I have made many new friends (human and dog) with other off-leash regulars. Don’t fence it in, or limit where the dogs can go. The paved trails can be saved for walkers and bikers only but the unpaved trails and fields are great for the dogs.
